Abstract	Playfulness describes how children engage in play. This study examined the developmental trajectories of playfulness from the perspective of children themselves. We asked a total of 483 children aged 3 to 6 about their self-rated playfulness over a 2-year period. Latent linear growth curve models showed that the children?s self-rated playfulness decreased over time. However, we found that time for free play at home was negligible; instead, we observed positive effects of playtime with parents and parental playfulness. The findings emphasize the significance of parents for the development of young children?s play and learning. But they also highlight the importance of maintaining playful learning beyond early childhood. (ZPID).
