| Abstract | Evaluations of game-based interventions for basic mathematical skills in daycare centers show that adaptive learning support of daycare teachers is a key success factor. However, it is unclear how the math microadaptivity of game instructors in particular is influenced by (a) factors related to the child (age and initial math level) and (b) factors related to the course (game specificity and number of game repetitions). The present study examined the impact of these factors. To this end, we inserted 68 4- to 6-year-olds into a one-on-one setting with mathematical games over nine play sessions. We then evaluated the videotaped game interactions regarding the game instructors? mathematical microadaptivity. The latter was initially lower the lower children?s mathematical skills but improved with each repetition of the same game, albeit not consecutively across the three games. We draw implications for research and practice in the Discussion section. (ZPID). |
