| Abstract | The present article provides an overview of the data protection legal foundations in child protection research and their application in research practice. It addresses the methodological challenges related to the data processing of child protection data, as well as the guidelines for inter- and national collaborations. By comprehensively examining current research practices concerning typical data sources and types, it highlights ways to reconcile data protection and research efficiency. The aim is to offer a clear, structured presentation of the methodological challenges along with practical recommendations to maximize the quality and success of research projects in the field of child protection research.
