| Abstract | Tested the theoretical prediction aspects of the recently formulated dimensional comparison theory (DCT), an extension of the internal/external frame of reference model. Two studies with a total sample of 1,651 junior high and high school students (aged 12-18 years) were conducted. Assessments included items measuring academic self-concept in up to six subjects, homework self-efficacy, the Figure Analogies subscale from the Cognitive Abilities Test 4-12-R (German version: KFT 4-12-R), demographic information, and grades. Results demonstrated significant contrast effects for far comparisons and markedly less contrast or assimilation effects for near comparisons. In conclusion, results are discussed in regard to methodological and theoretical considerations for DCT. (ZPID). |
