| Abstract | Presented and evaluated the Teacher Emotions Scales (TES), a self-report instrument for the assessment of teachers' emotional experiences of enjoyment, anger, and anxiety. The German and English language versions of the TES were tested on a total of 944 teachers (aged 21-68 years) in three studies. Measures included both the general and student-group specific variants of the TES, the Positive And Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding (BIDR), the teachers' sense of efficacy scale and teaching quality scales from the COACTIV and PALMA studies, and the Marlowe-Crown Social Desirability Scale. Results indicate the reliability and validity of the new instrument. The TES also showed metric invariance across both language versions with strong psychometric properties in terms of reliability and internal validity and demonstrated strong external validity. As a tool that is easy to administer for measuring baseline scores of experienced emotions during teaching, the TES may help to provide valuable information regarding teachers' well-being with implications for the functioning of the classroom.
