| Abstract | The aim of this inquiry is to reflect on the complex relationship between language awareness, educational discourse and the quest for peaceful coexistence in an elementary school situated in a Jewish-Arab cooperative village in Israel. The concept of language awareness in relation to the educational goals and activities of this bi-national/ bi- cultural/ bilingual school in explored. The focus is on the affective and social domains of language awareness as they are embedded within the formal and informal structures of the school and within the broader social and cultural system of the village.
