| Abstract | This article responds to solicited reaction papers from a group of scholars and professional leaders to the original article written by the authors. The rejoinder highlights only some of the issues raised in the reaction papers, understanding that perhaps the most important objectives of the process are the continuing conversations and the creative initiatives that hopefully will flow from them. The major goal for the authors of this article is to encourage counseling psychologists to use the science and practice of their profession to enhance the lives of children and youth within the school context. They assert that issues of professional identity, interests, and challenges aside, the most important beneficiaries of strengthened partnerships between counseling psychology and school counselors as well as other school specialists are children and adolescents, their families, and their communities. The hope is that the relevant professions are able to move beyond issues of turf, prestige, and identity and focus their energies on collaborative ways to mobilize the science and practice of their professions to strengthen schools and improve the lives of youth. The following three sections form the organization for this rejoinder article: (1) background and values; (2) challenges and benefits; and (3) hopes for the future. (ERIC). |
