Abstract | In "Effective Literacy Coaching: Building Expertise and a Culture of Literacy," literacy experts Shari Frost, Roberta Buhle, and Camille Blachowicz provide more than 50 practical activities designed to help K-12 literacy professionals: (1) Assess the current literacy program; (2) Plan changes that will foster a culture of literacy; (3) Collaborate for excellence in literacy instruction; and (4) Direct professional development. Self-assessment tools are included to help literacy coaches reflect on their own activities, develop their role and goals, and establish themselves as valuable literacy resources within the school. Assorted tools help coaches open and maintain lines of communication, form action teams, and procure and organize materials. And the numerous professional development tools help coaches enrich teachers' knowledge of instructional strategies. All tools are also available for download. Whether you are new to literacy coaching or a seasoned coach looking to reenergize your approach, these proven tools can help you cultivate a vibrant and effective literacy program. (As Provided). |
