| Abstract | "We estimate the effects of longer school days in primary school on students' learning and mothers' labor supply. With novel data on primary school applications, we build an IV exploiting the fact that, due to class size rules set by the law, small changes in the mix of school applications can lead to non-linear changes in the probability of being assigned to the full-time (FT) scheme. We show that attending the FT scheme increases test scores in grades 2 and 5, but these effects fade away by grade 8. Conversely, the positive impact we find on mothers' labor force participation is long-lasting." The study refers to the period 2014-2022 (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku, © 2026 Elsevier Ltd.
