In the context with the Nightingale project, the nightingale is understood as a synonym for mutual appreciation and recognition. Mutual appreciation and recognition are developmental conditions for a democratic-political understanding of society, which are only possible when there are spaces for encounters and "the other" is no longer a stranger and thus an understanding for each other can develop. This paper deals with democratic education, which is not only about a knowledge of institutions, but also about participation and encounter. These find their expression in the project Nightingale. Student teachers as mentors and pupils as mentees spend their free time together, integrated in the practical pedagogical studies of the University of Teacher Education Vienna. |
