| Abstract | Investigated the effects of simultaneous and sequential animation episode presentation on perceptual processing of the presentations and on the learning of higher-order relationships. Eye movements were recorded as 60 participants (mean age 22 years) viewed four animation sequences that were either sequentially or simultaneously presented. Participants also completed a pre- and post-test regarding the material presented in the animation episodes. Results showed significantly more visual transitions between the episodes in the simultaneous presentation condition as compared to the serial presentation condition. Furthermore, bidirectional visual transitions were observed more frequently in the simultaneous presentation condition in comparison to the serial presentation condition. Moreover, learning about higher-order relationships was observed to be significantly better in the simultaneous presentation condition. The results are discussed within the framework of the animation processing model. (ZPID). |
