| Abstract | Studied the efficacy of the "fairplayer.manual" bullying prevention program using social-network analysis focusing on peer influence processes. A total sample of 328 middle-school students from two schools (51% female, mean age 13 years) were assigned either to the program or a to control group. The program consisted of 15 weekly 90-minute sessions. Data were collected pre- and 4 months postintervention using the Revised Bully/Victim Questionnaire and questions regarding individual social networks in order to determine network parameters including indegree, a centrality measure, closeness, and betweenness, as measures of individual social influence. Results showed that bullies initially typically had a much higher centrality and social influence level across all identified parameters. Postintervention, analysis examining network changes and network dynamics both showed a decreased social influence for bullies. No such changes were found in the nonintervention group. In conclusion, "fairplayer.manual" appears to be effective because of its focus on both individual skills and social-network dynamics. (ZPID). |
