| Abstract | Studied if personalized computer-based learning material is associated with increased motivation and improved learning. A total sample of 128 college and continuing-education students studied either a personalized or formal version of a computer-based program. Following the task description, but before beginning the task, subjects were assessed with the Questionnaire on Current Motivation (QCM). Subjects were again asked about their motivational levels during learning and posttest. The think-aloud method was also used with five subjects to better understand how learners perceived the computer language style. Results showed that personalization resulted in increased motivation and retention, but no significant effect was found for transfer. Results are considered in line with prior findings indicating that personalization can positively influence learning. (ZPID). |
