AbstractStudied the effects of prosody and naturalness of speech used with computer-supported learning environments on learning performance. 46 subjects (mean age 25 years) were divided into three groups, and completed a learning task with varying computer prosody feedback: neutrally spoken natural feedback, motivationally spoken natural feedback, or neutrally spoken computer-synthesized feedback. Results demonstrated that naturally spoken feedback was related to better performance, which was increased further by motivationally spoken feedback. In conclusion, the use of natural and motivational speech appears to improve learner motivation and ultimate learning progress. (ZPID).
