Abstract	Nonprofit organizations (NPOs) often face challenges in attracting young volunteers. Buil-ding on the model by Kals et al. (2021), this study identifies organizational characteristics, work characteristics, motivation, and communication as key foundations for fostering a willingness to volunteer. Conducted in collaboration with various NPOs in Switzerland, the research employs a multimethod approach, including guideline interviews with current, for-mer, and potential volunteers, as well as a validating online survey. The findings reveal that young volunteers prioritize autonomy, meaningful tasks, and opportunities for personal development. However, they frequently encounter uncertainty and concerns about overcom-mitment. The study underscores the importance of offering flexibility, low-threshold entry points, and clear communication about volunteer roles and conditions. These insights provide actionable strategies for NPOs to enhance their youth recruitment efforts effectively.
