(DIPF/Orig.).

Social transformation processes worldwide have led to 'extended education', i.e. the expansion of educational offerings for children and young people, becoming increasingly important. Internationally, various primary-level extended education offerings resemble the German all-day primary school concept. This contribution introduces these offerings with recourse to illustrative national examples. Based on the characterisation of the predominant models found in Australia, Sweden, and England, possible developmental trajectories for the German all-day primary school are outlined. Key elements of these trajectories are: the clarification of the intended purpose of extended education and a corresponding specification of educational aims, a return to prioritising the reduction of educational inequality, and the facilitation of the necessary professionalisation of pedagogic staff. The contribution thus demonstrates the potential of international perspectives in shaping the qualitative development of the all-day primary school. (DIPF/Orig.).
