Abstract	Die UNESCO bietet mit den "UNESCO Learning Cities" ein Förderprogramm für Städte, die zugleich individuelles Empowerment, soziale Inklusion, nachhaltige Entwicklung, kulturellen Wohlstand und auch wirtschaftliche Entwicklung fördern. Sie sind in einem Netzwerk zusammengeschlossen. Derzeit gibt es weltweit 356 Learning Cities in 79 Ländern. Linz könnte künftig vielleicht eine weitere sein. Die Autorin des vorliegenden Beitrags beschreibt die zentralen Prinzipien einer Learning City sowie das Konzept der Communities of Practice (CoPs) und wie diese CoPs zur Entwicklung zu einer Learning City beitragen können. CoPs sind niederschwellige, gemeinschaftliche Lernnetzwerke auf Basis gemeinsamer Interessen der Beteiligten. Sie ermöglichen praxisnahes Lernen jenseits formaler Bildung. Die Autorin stellt neun CoPs in Linz vor. Sie untersuchte die neun vorgestellten Initiativen in einer Fallstudie und präsentiert in diesem Beitrag zentrale Erkenntnisse. So seien Peer-to-Peer-Lernen, Mentoring, interdisziplinäre Perspektiven sowie der Aufbau von Sozialkompetenz und Leadership der besondere Mehrwert dieser informellen Lernorte. Um die Stadt Linz für eine Bewerbung für das UNESO Learning Cities Förderprogramm vorzubereiten, schlägt die Autorin als konkrete Maßnahmen vor: CoPs durch bessere Vernetzung, stärkere Einbindung marginalisierter Gruppen und durch nachhaltige Fördermodelle stärker in die Bildungslandschaft zu integrieren. The UNESCO Learning Cities programme provides funding to cities that foster individual empowerment, social inclusion, sustainable development, cultural prosperity and also economic development. They are joined together in a network. Worldwide there are currently 356 Learning Cities in 79 countries. Linz might become one in the future. The author of this article describes the main principles of a learning city as well as the concept of communities of practice (CoPs) and how these CoPs can contribute to the development of a learning city. CoPs are low-threshold, collaborative learning networks based on the participants' common interests. They enable practical learning beyond formal education. The author introduces nine CoPs in Linz. She investigated these nine initiatives in a case study and presents the main findings in this article. Peer-to-peer learning, mentoring, interdisciplinary perspectives and the development of social skills and leadership are the particular added value of these informal learning places. To prepare the city of Linz for its application to the UNESCO Learning Cities funding programme, the author proposes specific measures: greater integration of CoPs into the educational landscape through better networking, greater inclusion of marginalized groups and sustainable funding models.
