Abstract	The affective and socio-cultural aspects of language learning for a long time have been largely neglected in academic debates. In her doctoral project the author aims to explore primarily the affective factors underlying the acquisition of English as a third language. Especially, the affective sides of tertiary languages in migration context are relatively new areas requiring systematic and fundamental research. A close look at the biographies of young migrants shows interdependencies between the many factors which are involved in bilingual and bicultural experiences. In the article, following the coding processes proposed by the Grounded Theory (Strauss/Corbing 1998), the author will discuss some authentic data from a qualitative interview with Dodo, a student, and three categories she developed. The outcome could provide a new and remarkable insight into the interdependence of affective and cognitive factors of learning English, as a third language in migration. (Verlag, adapt.).
