| Abstract | This chapter explores the practice of creating versions of a coursebook, which involves adapting the materials for a specific context. It reports the findings of a small-scale study conducted in 2018, in which publishers, editors, and authors were interviewed about the versioning process. Four sample lessons from a global coursebook are compared with versions created for the Middle East. The chapter also discusses the practical, pedagogical, and ethical issues involved in the versioning process. The central argument of the chapter is that stakeholders should critically reflect upon their roles in the process and that greater collaboration is needed between stakeholders in order to create more principled versions of coursebooks. |
