Abstract	Die strukturgenetische didaktische Analyse, eine Weiterentwicklung der "Stoffdidaktik", beruht darauf, dass wesentliche Informationen über das Lehren und Lernen von Mathematik aus fachlichen Strukturen und Prozessen geschöpft werden können. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird diese Methode charakterisiert, und es wird gezeigt, was sie in der mathematikdidaktischen Entwicklungsforschung und in der Lehrerbildung zu leisten vermag. Structure-genetic didactical analyses are a continuation of the traditional "subject matter didactics" that has been the dominating method of mathematics education in the past. However, unlike their predecessor, structure-genetic didactical analyses are not only directed to the logical structures of mathematics, but also to processes inherent in doing mathematics and to the development of genetic curricula. In this paper this research method is illustrated by typical examples (introduction of multiplication, practice of long addition, nets of cubes) and characterized as an empirical method, and it is indicated what this method is able to achieve in developmental research and in teacher education.
