Abstract	Before going into details of the methodology of schoolbook research, we have to make sure what the object to scrutinize exactly is: What does 'schoolbook' mean, what is its raison d'être? My basic argument is that schoolbooks and their equivalents are media of work carried out in classrooms. So first of all I shall explain my argument in a set of statements that may serve as a theoretical framework providing the language and the concepts to define the research problem in question precisely. After that I will turn to the research process. The way from its very beginning to the end is always endangered by shortcomings, with regard to the definition of the problem, its operationalization, the research techniques to be applied, and, after all, the scope of the results. So I will recall the well-known guidelines that should lead the way through and guarantee the validity of the result.
