Abstract	The paper attempts to explain the concept of peer observations as a tool for quality assurance using the example of the peer observation scheme implemented at the Foreign Language Centre of the Universities of Bremen (FZHB). The author starts with general thoughts on the quality management at the language centers within Higher Education Institutes including aspects as accreditations of courses of study, the development of QA criteria catalogues for this specific context and the quality of teaching as a central evaluation criterion. Based on these considerations different types of observations are discussed, followed by some detailed explanations on the concept of peer observation, its advantages, risks and necessary settings. The FZHB developed a scheme for peer observations which has been in use since summer 2010. The paper describes the implementation process, the aims, the experiences and the result of this scheme.
