Abstract | This article aims at showing ways of promoting intercultural competence in foreign language teaching. Three sub-tasks which can be seen as part of more complex tasks or as additions to text books promoting intercultural competence are presented and discussed. The tasks focus on critical incidents (task A) and mediation as an intercultural challenge (task B). The tasks are primarily intended for Spanish but are also partly suitable for French foreign language classrooms. To start with, the conditions for teaching foreign languages in school regarding the promotion of intercultural competence are described and the current state of the scientific discussion is briefly presented. Thus, the sub-tasks are theoretically based as well as directly relevant for foreign language teaching. (Verlag). |
