Abstract | Intensive efforts (of scholars and researchers) have been aimed at identifying the flaws in current science teaching methods, and suggesting innovative strategies. Along the general direction of identifying effective science teaching / learning strategies, this article focuses on science instruction in Aboriginal classrooms. The key question this article addresses is: What teaching strategy would Aboriginal science learners find most suitable in the study of science? In an attempt to answer this question, the article looks at relevant cases from various parts of the world ,dwelling on the common theme that runs through these cases - the integration of the students' schema, culture, and environment - into the science classroom. The implications for the science teacher, and the limitations of tht strategy are also discussed. (DIPF/orig.) |
