Abstract | This book is a revision of B.S. Bloom (Ed.): The taxonomy of educational objectives, the classification of goals, Handbook I: Cognitive domain (1956) . It is divided into four sections. "The first describes the need for taxonomies and the ways in which educators can use this Taxonomy. The second chapter discusses the nature of objectives, their relationship to standards, and their role in education. [ Section II:] The two-dimensional table known as the Taxonomy Table is presented in chapter 3. The next two chapters describe the structure of the revised framework and provide greater detail on the table's two dimensions: the knowledge dimension and the cognitive process dimension. Each dimension consists of a set of categories that are defined and illustrated. The nine chapters in Section III demonstrate the uses and usefulness of the Taxonomy Table. Chapter 6 describes how the Taxonomy Table can be used to develop learning objectives, plan instruction, design assessments, and align these three activities. Chapter 7 presents an overview of the vignettes. ... Chapters 8-13 contains the vignettes themselves, which are descriptions of actual course units written by teachers who developed and/or taught them. Each vignette is analyzed in terms of its objectives, instruction, assessment, and alignment using the Taxonomy Table.
