Abstract | The aim of this publication is to present some of the present trends in Finnish teacher education. To understand these trends better, they are mirrored against the Finnish teacher training system prior to the present university-based system. A number of future visions are equally presented, with prospects for and risks in change.... The Finnish teacher education system, part of the university-level education for 22 years now, is actively looking for a new awareness, leading to conscious long-term plans in order to develop both teacher education and the school communities within society.
