Abstract	How do decicion processes concerning education compare in different countries? This publication compares levels, modes and domains of decision-making processes in 14 OECD education systems during 1990/91. For the first time, formal descriptions of public and private establisments and primary and secondary education (1st and 2nd level) are presented. It considers 34 basic decisions in four different areas: institutional organisation, educational planning and structure; personnel management; and resource allocation and use. How autonomous are schools in modern education systems? This publication lets us answer the question thanks to the co-operation of the countries in explaining how their educational systems function.
