| Abstract | The article reports on a survey carried out among English teachers in primary and secondary schools in Finnmark. The survey had the form of a questionnaire aimed at investigating what methodology is used in the classroom, and how motivated teachers and learners are for working with English. Also, the participants were asked about their need for in-service training. The results indicate some differences in the choice of methods at the different levels, but traditional teacher-centred approaches seem to be used quite a lot with learners of all ages. Many participants in the survey feel a great need of being updated on communicative teaching in connection with the introduction of the new national curriculum, L97. The article concludes with some proposals for in-service training in the form of courses and greater contact among English teachers in the country. (Verlag). |
