| Abstract | Vocational education and training (VET) in Swaziland is at the crossroads as it faces problems in respect of: 1) relevance; 2) standards; 3) comparability; 4) accessibility; and 5) skilled workforce. These factors have been found to be inadequate for the development of the necessary competencies in students and the workforce for productive life. Subsequently, the delivery of VET is undergoing restructuring. In this paper selected studies are examined to identify the socioeconomic pressures for change.
