Abstract | After reviewing the diverse stages of the Educational Sector Adjustment Programs (SAP) "I examine how rural parents, local communities, and schools are contending with the changes introduced into Ghana's ecucation system in the late 1980s during the period of SAPs. I argue that SAPs have added to internal structural economic problems and negatively impacted upon Ghana's educational processes. Given the harsh impact of SAPs on the rural poor majority, many parents and village communities have been unable to identify with the purported benefits of the introduction of the Junior Secondary School program. Rural parents are struggling to provide for their children's education as the state cuts back on social services." (DIPF/Abstract uebernommen/Bi.). |
