Abstract | One of the key trends currently affecting the practices of teaching, learning, and creative inquiry, as mentioned in "The 2011 Horizon Report," is that learners prefer flexibility and mobility. Mobile learning is gaining popularity as an emerging trend facilitating the process of teaching and learning in the 21st Century. Research indicates several benefits of using mobile devices as educational tools, including increased student engagement and motivation, knowledge creation, language development and learning, collaborative learning, global awareness, and effective cost and time management. In order to tap the maximum potential of mobile technology resources in education, instructional designers and educators should evaluate their teaching-learning context and use effective design theories which incorporate mobile learning in course design.
