Abstract	This article describes the basic nature of internationalization of higher education and summarizes the status of and path toward internationalization at China's research universities in terms of talent development, curriculum, international mobility of faculty and students, academic research, and international cooperation in administration. Current problems in the internationalization of Chinese research universities are examined, including too few international students, the waste of local internationalization resources, funding shortages, and a dependency mentality in the process of internationalization; the key to internationalizing China's research universities lies in enhancing internal strengths, increasing investment, and overcoming a colonial mentality.
