Abstract	The trend in U.S. undergraduate economics degrees continued its upward trajectory in 2009-2010. After three years of treading water (2005, 2006, and 2007), in 2008 (academic year 2007-2008) undergraduate degrees in economics awarded by U.S. colleges and universities resumed the strong upward trajectory they exhibited from 1997 through 2004, when they rose almost 60 percent over seven years. This trend continued unabated through 2009 and 2010. Over the past three years, the number of undergraduate economics degrees awarded has increased by 16 percent. The fastest growth in 2008 was among private colleges and universities, almost 10 percent, whereas degrees awarded by public institutions grew only 5 percent. In 2009 and 2010, however, the location of fast-growing economics departments changed, with public institutions leading the way at 13 percent over the two years, while private colleges and universities trailed at just 2 percent.
