AbstractThis article presents an interview with David W. Chan, founding director of the Program for the Gifted and Talented at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Chan has worked at the university for nearly 30 years, first in the Department of Psychiatry and then in the Department of Educational Psychology. Currently, he is also an adjunct professor of educational psychology in the Faculty of Education. Chan was brought up in Hong Kong but he received his undergraduate and graduate education in psychology in Canada. He earned his bachelor's degree from Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario, and his master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario. He has maintained broad research interests and conducted research in areas that include stress and coping, well-being and psychopathology, learning and reading difficulties, and giftedness and creativity. He has published over 250 articles and book chapters in these areas, and about one third of his publications are in the area of gifted education. In this interview, Chan discusses what led him to the field of gifted education. He also relates his research interests and process and offers his advice to young scholars. (ERIC).
