AbstractThe Center for Humanistic Education (CHE) engages high-school students and teachers from the Arab and Jewish sectors in an examination of connections between the Holocaust, personal and social morals, and implications for present Israeli society. Since 1997, CHE has been working regularly with about 25 Jewish and Arab high schools, engaging about 350 participants annually in an ongoing process which begins in the framework of a homogeneous and single culture base group, and gradually develops into a multicultural framework which provides the opportunity for pluralistic dialogue. Some of the schools credit the CHE program as a Community Involvement project, which is compulsory, especially in Jewish high-schools. One of the defining features of the CHE rationale is its approach to Holocaust education. This article presents a selection of topics addressed in the CHE program which are contextualized within the framework of the Holocaust, and conceptualized in the overall universal humanistic-democratic approach of the Center.
