Abstract | While 2010 was originally stated as being the end point for the creation of the European Higher Education Area through the Bologna Process, it is in fact a point along the way. The journey from Sorbonne (1998) to Bologna (1999) towards 2010 has seen an expansion of the number of signatory states (from 4 to 29 to 46) and a broadening of the objectives, whilst at the same time not losing sight of the original focus. This paper outlines the journey being undertaken by the universities, linked to changes in the economy and the social dimension. (Contains 6 notes.) (As Provided). |
