Abstract | Because of No Child Left Behind and the pressure of high stakes testing, many school districts are looking for ways to raise test scores and gain or maintain adequate yearly progress. A successful after-school math tutoring program, a partnership between a rural school district and the local university, is summarized in this article. Keys to this program's successful implementation are related to those found in research. Strengths of the program were found to outweigh its challenges. With a long term commitment from the district, an organized program structure, and university tutors part way through their teacher training, the district reported successful achievement by children, and satisfaction from adult participants--including school district teachers and tutors--and children's parents.
