Abstract | This article presents the ten shady schemes adopted by illegal studies-abroad intermediary agencies. Suggestions on how to prevent being fooled by these illegal intermediary agencies are also provided. These suggestions are the following: (1) One should avoid pinning hopes on persons claiming to have "superior abilities" as this is quite impossible; (2) One should clarify fuzzy payment items when paying fees; (3) One should sign with the intermediary agency an intermediary service agreement that contains detailed stipulations on the rights and obligations of both parties; (4) One should be careful when choosing an intermediary agency; (5) One should be extremely cautious and on no account stake their futures on uncorroborated statements by intermediary agencies; (6) One should keep all the originals of crucial documents; (7) One should carefully examine the business license of the intermediary agency; (8) One should remember that foreigners are not stupid; (9) One should not start thinking about playing "edge ball" even if loopholes exist in the educational system of other countries; and (10) One should seek answers from real specialists and not from bogus experts.
