Abstract | Research studies have shown that effective classroom management is a necessary condition for successful ICT integration in schools. Drawing upon the classroom management practices of teachers in a Singapore primary school, this article describes how the elements of classroom management facilitate the creation of a conducive learning environment to engage students in their learning with computers. Observations of ICT-mediated lessons, interviews with teachers, and focus group discussions with students are used in the case study. The classroom management elements that are identified and discussed include supporting ICT and non-ICT tools for the ICT-mediated activities, establishment of disciplinary and educational rules and procedures, and division of labor among teachers, students and technical support staff.
