Abstract | Alain Locke's vision of culturally grounded Negro adult education began to be realized in the 1930s through programs in Harlem and Atlanta sponsored by the American Association for Adult Education and the Carnegie Corporation. Opposed to "separate but equal," Locke defined adult education on the basis of practical, cultural, and racial interests. (SK) |
