AbstractThis article reports the results of a study on the impact of an online meditation (OMP) program in building resilience and geriatric social work competencies among postgraduate social work students across contexts. The OMP was fairly effective (Cohen's d range=4.84-5.49, p[less than or equal to] 0.012), and students who participated in it exhibited greater resilience and geriatric social work competencies compared to the wait-list control group. Posttest resilience scores were higher for female students and Christians. Female students studying in the United States and Sweden with non-social-work subjects at the undergraduate level and doing field placement in assisted living settings demonstrated greater geriatric social work competencies posttest. Adherence through regular attendance of the OMP lessons and self-practice mediated the relation between sociodemographic predictors and outcomes. The OMP is a useful addition in the postgraduate field training curriculum with some refinements for male students from different cultures with a social work undergraduate degree and doing fieldwork in community or hospice settings.
