Abstract | At a conference on educational physics, someone described a series of multiple-choice problems to test students' ideas about various mechanical phenomena. One of the problems questioned students' conceptions about the shape of the Earth's orbit in the solar system. The question was as follows: "Which of the following schematic illustrations corresponds most accurately to the real situation regarding the position of the Sun and the shape of the Earth's trajectory around the Sun, when viewed from top?" (As Provided). |
