This study employed a mixed-method approach by combining evaluative descriptive research design and experimental design to evaluate multicultural-based short story appreciation textbook in private universities in East Java, Indonesia. The data were gathered via interview, questionnaires, documentation, and test. While choosing the experimental and control group from each university, the sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. The results reveal that both the lecturers and the students showed their positive responses and attitudes towards the use of multicultural-based short story appreciation textbook in teaching prose-fiction appreciation course. They asserted that the textbook could motivate the students in learning prose-fiction appreciation course.
