Abstract | The year 2019 is a banner year for "The Canadian Modern Language Review/La Revue canadienne des langues vivantes (CMLR/RCLV)," which celebrates its 75th year of publication, and its profound impact on the field of applied linguistics in Canada and beyond since the conclusion of World War II. The year 2019 is also personally significant for me, as it marks exactly three decades since I published my first international publication in the "TESOL Quarterly." The invitation from the "CMLR/RCLV" to contribute to their 75th Anniversary issue is thus a welcome opportunity to reflect on some of the key ideas and findings from my own research on identity and language learning over the past three decades.
