Abstract	Throughout the nineteenth century and continuing after annexation, an American hegemony was exercised over Hawai'i and its people. It is the purpose of this article to continue the story of the use of hegemony as it pertains to education in Hawai?i. While prior research on the use of hegemony dealt with the 19th century and the first 40 years of the 20th century (Beyer 2009a, 2009b, 2012), this article investigates the use of hegemony by the dominant class of whites in Hawai?i during the years from the bombing of Pearl Harbor and other sites on the island of O?ahu to the end of World War II. This article demonstrates that an American hegemony was extended by a dominant class consisting of missionary descendants and other whites involved in education and the plantation economy along with the addition of officials in charge of military operations that resulted in the successful completion of an Americanization process of the largely non-white population of Hawai?i. This Americanization process had begun during the 19th century and extended during the first 40 years of the 20th century. By the time the martial law ended in 1945, the education system of Hawai?i was further altered to prepare students for a plantation economy controlled by members of the local dominant class and an American patriotism that led to ensuring the continual support of the military in Hawai?i by all citizens.
