Abstract | Teachers play a vital role in advancing LP research in geography, regardless of whether they teach geography on its own or integrate geography into other subjects (e.g., social studies, science, language arts). The goal of this work is to inform geography educators about LPs and how teachers factor into this endeavor. This article is intended to provide educators with: (1) a basic understanding of an LP; (2) how LPs apply in the K-12 classroom; and (3) four essential components of LPs for geography educators. In separate vignettes, a classroom teacher and an academic geographer share their perspectives and insights regarding the use and value of an LP for concepts within geography. Teachers are exceptionally important to every stage in the research process of composing and refining an LP; this work seeks to put geographic educators at the forefront by expanding their role in this ongoing research.
