Abstract | This article describes the images of teachers as constructs of a public interest in education and schools. It uses the portrayals of teachers as a productive impulse to reflect on what the professionalisation of teaching practice in schools and classrooms could imply, in particular focusing on the characteristics of accomplished teachers and poor teachers.
