Abstract | Professional development programs are critical in addressing the needs of teacher education students and graduates. In an effort to best meet the desired needs and wants of these new educators, professional development opportunities must target essential issues. This study examines topics including classroom management, exceptional children, parent involvement, and navigating the first year of successful teaching. Although the student teaching experience allows for growth of its participants, it is simply not sufficient. To best target areas of concern for future educators, there is a call for focus areas of professional opportunities allowing for an advancement of skills. In this study treatment group participants demonstrated increased confidence and significant growth in these specific areas addressed at workshops they attended, justifying the need for future professional development opportunities.
