AbstractRecent surveys of feminist rhetorical historiography by Royster and Kirsch, Elizabeth Tasker and Frances B. Holt-Underwood, K. J. Rawson, Kathleen J. Ryan, and Jessica Enoch reveal that very few feminist historiographers have taken up digital methodologies or engaged digital humanist conversations. Thus while digital feminist scholars have certainly explored in great detail women's rhetorical engagement with digital environments from blogs and online chat rooms to video games and electronic writing classrooms, a very small number of feminist "historians" of rhetoric have considered how their work may be enhanced or occluded by digital innovations. Given the fact that feminist historians have paid little published attention to digital scholarship, it seems they have not taken the opportunity to consider how digital innovation may "change the game" of feminist historiography or initiate a methodological revolution. This essay explores potential connections between feminist historiography in rhetoric and the digital humanities. The authors investigate how specific digital innovations might invigorate feminist historiographic study, and they pause to consider how a turn to the digital might run counter to feminist methodological imperatives.
