| Abstract | This paper looks at North Korean education in terms of the tension that exist between globalisation and educational sovereignty. There are several research questions which will help to focus this discussion: What do globalisation and internationalisation mean in the North Korean context and to what degree are these definitions shaped by Korean history and recent policy shifts in South Korea? How compatible are these concepts with the 'juche' philosophy of self-reliance and with the maintenance of national identity? How do globalisation and internationalisation mesh with the interpretation of independence which North Korea has espoused over the last several decades as a leading player in the nonaligned movement? To what degree is technologisation in education possible without globalisation? What are the educational implications of technologisation, globalisation and internationalisation? . .. This paper begins with a very brief historical background of North Korean education ... Second, it will provide a baseline for developing three possible scenarios for the future of education in North Korea. ( DIPF/Text übernommen) |
